New Jersey pushes early retirement offer; lawmakers chafe

Asbury Park Press reports on a new plan for New Jersey government workers:
The details show that state employees who are at least 50 years old with at least 25 years of government work will be eligible for up to three additional years of credit on their pensions. Those 60 or older with between 20 and 25 years of experience can receive free health coverage through the state. Workers 60 or older with between 10 and 20 years of service can get an additional $500 per month in retirement for 24 months.

The plan is expected to cost an additional $500 million to $550 million in pension expenses
