Raeanne V. Curtis was back on the job running the state Department of Public Works one day after officially retiring as commissioner.
Curtis is among the more than 100 state workers who have been hired back temporarily since they retired under an incentive plan Gov. M Jodi Rell and state unions negotiated.
In all, 3,856 workers retired before a June 30 deadline expired. Rell has pledged to restrict replacement hiring, including the temporary rehiring of retirees.
The governor is trying to avoid the widespread double-dipping that happened last time the state offered retirement incentives in 2003.
